29th Dec 2010: A bus starts from Ramallah to Jericho

Jericho, 29th December 2010

I am invited as one of 10 artists to take part in the EU project ‘art-based research / research based art’. Dec 2010: We choose an appropriate public site to make a test for a bigger public event in June 2011. We invited 150 people to an evening event. On the event, we lightened 100 lanterns.

I see my very first intervention in the West Bank (after a relatively short period for research) as an outsider artist coming into a specific public situation. My aims for this public event are to create in participation with local people a primarily beautiful image.

The steps of realisation were two visit to the municipality in Jericho, searching for suitable public sites and 2 testings of locations.

On 29th Dec 2010, a bus started from Ramallah with volunteers from PFF, the International Academy of Art Palestine, support from RIWAQ and many individuals, later the municipality of Jericho, the fire brigade and the Red Cross!
